Dental Implants

Dental implants are among the most popular choices when it comes to replacing missing or damaged teeth that can’t be saved by other means. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or for full upper or lower arch replacements. While implants are a great option for permanent tooth replacement, it’s of course preferable to keep your natural teeth and our dentist will exhaust those options before considering implants.

The implant procedure involves setting an artificial tooth with a titanium root directly into your jawbone. This is done in a dental clinic under local anaesthetic.

Our team has extensive experience providing a range of dental implant options. We will consult with you to work out how suitable you are for dental implants, as well as what type of treatment you’d prefer, the cost and other associated factors.

We will walk you through the entire surgical procedure so you know what to expect at every step from initial consultation through to recovery.

How Implants Work

The procedure involves surgically setting a small titanium screw into your jawbone. The screw forms the “root” of the replacement tooth. For conventional dental implants, the screw will need to integrate into the surrounding bone to form a solid root and this can take between three and six months.

Once the screw is set and the bone has healed, an abutment is placed onto the implant. The porcelain or ceramic crown is then securely fitted onto the abutment. Once the crown has been properly fitted, it should be virtually impossible to tell the difference between the crown and the surrounding natural teeth.

Besides conventional implants, we can also provide immediate dental implants. For this procedure, the replacement tooth can be placed at the same time that the screw is set, meaning that you don’t have to wait for the screw to integrate into the bone. Immediate implants may not be suitable for all patients as there is a higher risk of implant failure if the screw does not fully integrate with the bone.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a range of benefits over dentures and other cosmetic teeth replacement processes. These include:

  • The near-appearance and functionality of natural teeth
  • A permanent and fixed dental solution with no chances of slippage or falling
  • Improve clarity of speech and biting, and chewing capacity, unlike poor-fitting dentures
  • Durable and can last for a lifetime if properly cared for
  • Helps your jawbone and facial appearance to maintain its natural shape and density
